Helpful Route Planning Hints for Getting to South Lake Tahoe:
Hwy 50 drives along Lake Tahoe, and is the scenic tourist route to South Lake Tahoe from Reno.
Hwy 50 CURVES along Lake Tahoe for 20 miles at high speed and traffic volume through high elevations, and thus can be treacherous, tedious and/or slow, especially with snowy roads. When roads are snowy, or for a change of scenery, continue on 395 south 1 mile past Carson City and Hwy 50 to SR 206 (Jack's Valley Rd).  Turn right on Jack's Valley Road.  Continue about 10 miles to SR 207, (Kingsbury Grade).  Turn right on Kingsbury Grade.  Continue about 8 miles to the crest of Kingsbury Grade.  Turn right at the first right past the crest, (No Benjamin). This route is just as fast and offers great scenery and wildlife that few Lake Tahoe visitors see.
